There are ways to save money if you are on a fixed income. How? Well it isn’t easy, but if you are willing there is a way! Ways to save money including watching where your money goes every month. Try writing down anything you spend money on, such as groceries, HOA fees, phone bill, FPL, gasoline, etc… You might be surprised if you count every dollar! You may see some areas you can stop spending by just writing it all down.
Here are some specific ways to save money:
- Buy grocery items when on sale and buy extra when on sale. Use digital coupons from cell phone apps or literal paper coupons available in the newspaper. Stop buying all the goodies at the grocery store and focus on the necessaries or less expense items such as rice, pasta and bread. If possible, use a less expensive brand or check prices at less expensive stores such as Aldi or Dollar General
- Try a family deal on your cell phone or compare prices with other companies. If you have unlimited data, maybe it’s time to change to a less expensive package. Do you have a cell and a landline? You don’t really need to keep both.
- Cut out cable TV or excess streaming services and minimize your choices on your TV. You can get many free over the air DIGITAL channels with the correct antenna.
- Paint your own nails instead of going to a nail salon.
- If you are a woman, let your hair grow a little longer or cut back on getting highlights. If you are a man, maybe someone else can trim your hair for free or you can use a shaver and do it yourself.
- Cut back on spending money on items such as: coffee shops, fast food and convenience stores which tend all to be higher in cost.
- Find clothes on sale. You probably have enough in your closet that you haven’t worn in a while. If you do need clothes, try visiting a thrift store.
- Try selling items of any value that you don’t use or want. There are many ways to sell online and on social media. Try Ebay or on Facebook look for “The MarketPlace.”
- To save money driving, shop around for car insurance, keep your car tuned up, drive only when needed and share rides when possible.
- If possible, raise your deductible to lower your premium on your insurance.
- Always look for better prices. If you aren’t accustomed to doing this, work on creating a habit of looking for the better deal anytime you need to spend your money.
No matter if you are on a fixed income or just struggling to make ends meet, there are ways to save money! It takes some work and effort but, in the end, you will be better off then you are now!
